Tobacco Data Briefs on Youth in Louisiana (DHH Regions 1-9)
The following data briefs were created in 2010, using tobacco-related data from the 2004, 2006 and 2008 Caring Communities Youth Surveys (CCYS). This survey collects data from public middle school (grade 6-8) and high school (grades 9-12) students statewide. Approximately 100,000 Louisiana youth participate in the CCYS survey every even-numbered year. The CCYS is designed to assess students’ involvement in a specific set of problem behaviors, as well as exposure to risk and protective factors that influence the likelihood of academic success, school dropout, substance abuse, violence, and delinquency among youth.
For more information on the CCYS, see the Picard Center website and the DHH website. They present data at the regional level (both DHH and DOE regions) and the parish level.
