Position Summary

LPHI is seeking a qualified intern to assist with engagement and community health implementation planning efforts for hospitals across southeast Louisiana. The selected intern will work closely with LPHI staff on activities such as literature research, information gathering and synthesis, developing asset/ resource inventories, planning, meeting facilitation, and preparation of presentations, reports, and other dissemination products.

LPHI welcomes masters level students to apply for this internship. The Intern will assist with planning efforts in the following area: access to and continuity of care, discrimination in health care, behavioral health, infrastructure, crime and violence, and health literacy.

While LPHI is based in New Orleans, remote work is possible within the state of LA. This internship will be a remote position with possible in-person meetings occurring in in 2022. This position can potentially satisfy a student’s integrated learning experience/ practicum experience requirement.

This paid, part-time, non-benefit eligible position will begin November 2021 and end May 2022 with a potential for extension.  The candidate will be expected to work between 10- 20 hours per week.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree completed or in progress; Master's degree in progress preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication, as well as ability to work with a team
  • Interest in public health, health equity, health systems, research and/or evaluation methodologies 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities  

Interns will work directly with the project team and gain experience by:

  • Coordinate activities with team to accomplish project plans
  • Conduct literature reviews and synthesize research
  • Researching evidence-based practices and innovations addressing social determinants of health
  • Assist with synthesizing findings and drafting products, such as resources inventories
  • Assist with evaluation and analysis efforts as needed
  • Participate in team and partner meetings and serve as note taker
  • Support LPHI staff in writing plans, reports, and other products, as well as assist with dissemination efforts

  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications
  • A commitment to actively working in alignment with public health with other social, racial, and economic justice movements
  • Ability to function independently and as a team member
