A Concurrent Resolution endorses LPHI’s creation. LPHI is officially incorporated. The Louisiana Public Health Institute (LPHI) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that serves as a partner and convener to improve population-level health outcomes.
Partnership for Access to Health (PATH) is formed with Catholic Health Network funds. PATH was a collaborative effort among partner organizations dedicated to creating a culturally sensitive and seamless health and social services delivery system for residents of the New Orleans area.
First Louisiana Cancer Research Center (LCRC) $7.2 million contract with LPHI to create The Louisiana Campaign for Tobacco Free Living (TFL). TFL, a statewide tobacco control program funded by a state excise tax on tobacco passed in 2002, envisions a healthier Louisiana through 100% tobacco-free living.
LPHI partners with the New Orleans Health Department to implement the CDC Steps to a Healthier New Orleans obesity grant. Steps to a Healthier New Orleans (Steps) was part of the Steps to a Healthier US Initiative, a national, multi-level program that is changing the face of chronic disease prevention in communities across the United States.
Kellogg Foundation grant to reestablish school-based health centers post-Katrina. School Health Connection (SHC) is a regional collaborative effort formed in 2006 to support the rebuilding and expansion of School Based Health Centers (SBHCs) in the greater New Orleans area following Hurricane Katrina.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) funds a four-year $100 million Primary Care Access and Stabilization Grant (PCASG) through Louisiana Medicaid to LPHI to rebuild and expand primary care in metro New Orleans.
The Office of National Coordinator for HIT funds LPHI to create the Crescent City Beacon Community (CCBC) to improve chronic disease care enabled by HIT. The American Recovery Act grant was awarded to the Greater New Orleans area through a collaborative of public and private healthcare systems convened by the Louisiana Public Health Institute (LPHI).
Gulf Region Health Outreach Program (GRHOP) Primary Care Capacity Project is created by a court settlement to expand quality primary care in Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Northwest Florida.
GNOHIE is formed. Beginning in 2013, in partnership with local healthcare leaders, LPHI established the Greater New Orleans Health Information Exchange (GNOHIE).
LPHI receives funding from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) to form the Louisiana Clinical Data Research Network (now REACHnet), which positions LPHI and the region for NIH clinical trial awards.
10 Years of Smoke-Free coalition-building culminates in the passage and implementation of New Orleans ordinance. The passage of a policy in New Orleans to make all workplaces smoke-free—including all bars and casinos—represents an exciting turning point for public health in Louisiana.
LPHI launches Gulf Coast Healthy Communities Project. The Gulf Coast Healthy Communities Project, funded by the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, partners with three nonprofit organizations in Biloxi, Mobile, and Pensacola to provide each one with a locally-based, publicly accessible data platform.
LPHI completes a three-year strategic plan and rebrands. In 2014, LPHI initiated a strategy and culture process and embraced a bold mission: to align action for health. As part of the critical strategic work, LPHI has developed an enduring brand identity that empowers the organization to grow into new opportunities.
