Please be aware that there is the threat of severe weather throughout Louisiana beginning as early as this evening and lasting throughout tomorrow (3/17).
Staff should use discretion in terms of your capacity to balance work / personal obligations and should remain in contact with supervisors.
September 15, 2020
Greetings LPHI team – It appears that Hurricane Sally is no longer a significant threat to the Greater New Orleans area with now only Tropical Storm warnings for today through Weds and our flash flood warnings have lifted. That said, the MS/AL coast and FL Panhandle remains under Hurricane Warning and sadly the storm is just sitting there and not expected to hit landfall until later tonight / early tomorrow as a Category 1 storm.
Although it was announced that City of New Orleans is closed today, and since our area is no longer under Hurricane Warning, we will continue to work. Those who need to take care of personal matters, children, please feel free to use your discretion work-wise.
We will stay tuned if anything changes.
September 14, 2020
Good Evening LPHI team – As I’m sure everyone is tracking, Tropical Storm Sally still has us in her sights with the Hurricane Warning area extended from Morgan City, LA to Ocean Springs, MS, and includes the Metro New Orleans area. It is anticipated to strengthen and likely arrive as a Hurricane Category 1, possibly 2 on late Mon/early Tues. Tropical storm force winds and rains may be felt as early as Monday. This storm is expected to bring severe flooding and high winds so please take necessary precautions as power outages may occur throughout the New Orleans, Northshore, and Capital areas.
Staying consistent with our approach of monitoring City of New Orleans City Hall closures and/or State Building closures, we have determined that LPHI offices (remote) will be closed starting tomorrow, Monday 9/14 at noon for staff in the Hurricane cone. We will provide an additional update tomorrow afternoon on the extent of the closure. Since we are remote, we ask staff use their own judgement and discretion for cancelling meetings tomorrow afternoon and Tuesday.
Please stay tuned as it is an evolving situation. As a reminder, please be in touch with your supervisor and let them know where you are! I am hopeful that if in the cone you are set with emergency preparedness efforts and ready to hunker down. Take precautions for your home offices and keep your devices charged!
We too acknowledge that we still have staff and family coping with the impacts of Hurricane Laura, we are thinking of you, and please keep us updated on how we can help.

Hurricane Laura is slowly moving out of Louisiana but continues to bring heavy rain and wind bands across the state. The good news is that we have heard from all LPHI staff today from the impacted areas and everyone is safe, though many are dealing with power outages and we will continue to keep in touch to assess damage and personal needs as the full extent of the damage unfolds.
Please note, LPHI offices (remote) in all impacted areas remain closed through tomorrow, Friday 8/28.

Please be advised that Hurricane Laura is projected to be a catastrophic Category 4 Hurricane impacting southwest Louisiana and Texas border communities, beginning Wednesday night, 8/26, with a Hurricane Warning in effect and effects are already being felt in coastal communities. There are mandatory evacuation zones throughout southwest and central coastal parishes and life threatening and unprecedented storm surge anticipated up to I-10. In addition the Governor has announced that Capital area parishes may be subject to tornadoes.
As previously announced, LPHI offices within the Hurricane Warning areas are closed, effective immediately. All staff in the mandatory and voluntary evacuation zones should be evacuating and sheltering immediately. We are also announcing that LPHI offices will be closed Thursday in the western Louisiana through Shreveport in order for staff to take necessary precautions preparing for Hurricane force winds and flash flooding anticipated for early Thursday.
The City of New Orleans is alerting area residents that although we are outside the forecast cone, we could see rain, wind and coastal flooding Weds and Thursday. As with every major weather event, we encourage staff to do what is right by their circumstances. In the New Orleans area and along southeastern LA outside of the forecast cone, we know that some schools are calling for closure, and we recognize that staff may wish to take time off, as needed.
Please keep your supervisor in the loop on your whereabouts and plans.
As these systems and circumstances change rapidly, we ask that all staff monitor the situation closely and we will do the same via official channels (highlighted below).

Please be advised that Hurricane Laura is projected to be a major Category 3 Hurricane impacting southwest Louisiana and Texas border communities, beginning Wednesday night, 8/26, with a Hurricane Warning currently in effect.
LPHI offices within the Hurricane Warning areas are closed, effective immediately, including Calcasieu Parish where officials have already issued a mandatory evacuation ahead of Hurricane Laura. We ask that staff in the storms projected path begin to execute your emergency plans, including securing homes (including home offices), pulling together important paperwork, making arrangements for safe passage and sheltering for themselves and family members, and to follow instructions from your local officials and the Governor.
The City of New Orleans is alerting area residents that although we are outside the forecast cone, we could see rain, wind and coastal flooding Weds and Thursday. The National Weather Service is warning that storm surges are expected within the next 48 hours from Mouth of the Mississippi River to San Luis Pass, TX, especially to communities outside the Louisiana Hurricane and Storm Damage system (levee protection system).
We just received a statement that the State has announced Office Closures statewide. At this time, LPHI plans to remain open for those outside the storm’s forecast cone.

August 23, 2020
We hope everyone is staying safe and getting prepared for the unique situation of back to back storms anticipated for the southern Gulf Coast of Louisiana this week. The first storm, Marco has been upgraded to a Hurricane Category 1 and impacts will begin to be felt overnight tonight with hurricane force winds, storm surge, and heavy rainfall expected. Tropical Storm Laura is expected to be a Hurricane Category 2, again with southern Louisiana in its sights, starting late Tuesday night. It is anticipated to bring additional storm surge, rainfall and wind. With the two storms back to back, there are concerns that their impact will be felt for a longer duration in terms of rainfall, water drainage, wind and power restoration if lost. Governor Edwards is suggesting that families be prepared to shelter in place* the 72 hours after the storms.
Following the closures of the City Hall and the State’s offices in Southern Louisiana, LPHI offices in the same areas will also be closed on Monday, which may be extended in the week.
Please stay tuned as it is an evolving situation and we will be monitoring the official channels on next steps and ask that you do the same. Channels include: City of New Orleans, your local news stations, and the Governor’s press conferences (another is planned tonight, Sun 8/23 at 6p).
As a reminder, please touch base with your supervisor about your whereabouts and stay safe!

We will resume normal operations tomorrow, Monday, October 9th.

October 6, 2017 2:15 pm

According to the latest news alerts, Nate is expected to impact the Greater New Orleans area beginning tomorrow morning through Sunday afternoon. From the current weather forecasts, and updates from the governor’s and mayor’s offices, it appears high winds and storm surge are the higher concerns. Although rain is expected, as of now it is not expected to be excessive. Please be alert however as this can change based on feeder bans and Orleans Parish’s current pump and turbine situation that can also exacerbate the impact of sudden downpours.

We will continue to monitor the official channels and will alert staff of any updates. Please keep informed through official channels as well, such as the City of New Orleans, your local news stations, the 1515 Poydras building’s site (for building closure status) and other links listed below. As we get a better understanding of the timing past Sunday, we will communicate additional plans for working remotely, possible building closures, school closures, etc., if deemed necessary. At this time the office building, 1515 Poydras, has not announced closures.

Staff should feel supported to do what they need to do to prepare (secure personal property, get supplies, arrange care / safety of loved ones, etc.). As such, staff members let your supervisor know if you need to leave early to handle those personal preparations. We ask that folks simply use their best judgement as it relates to their work and personal safety.

Remote staff, please monitor your locations for closure information and take all precautionary advisories set forth by your local authorities. Should your area be impacted, please notify your supervisor of your situation as soon as you are able to connect via phone or email. We ask that everyone be diligent and aware of changing weather situations in your location.

Lastly, your safety is most important, so we ask that you take precautions as necessary, and do not hesitate to reach out to your supervisor if you need anything. We also want to remind you to be prepared this Hurricane season, be weather aware, and to not drive in flooded areas even if it looks ok.
