On March 10, 2017, from 3 - 5 PM at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of New Orleans (2903 Jefferson Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70115), the Trans United Fund and Transitions Louisiana will be hosting a Town Hall to discuss solutions to address violence in the Transgender community of New Orleans. The NOPD LGBTQ Liaison Frank Robertson, City Council Members, the Mayor of New Orleans, the Attorney General’s office, and the media have all been asked to attend.

According to the Glaad.org website, transgender violence is at an all-time high and continues to rise. In 2016, 27 transgender people were killed in the United States and a majority of those victims were transgender women of color. In 2017, we have already experienced seven deaths. Three of which occurred in Louisiana- February, 19, Jaquarrius Holland died at the age of 18 in Monroe, LA; February 25, Chyna Gibson died at the age of 31 in New Orleans, LA; and on February 27, Ciara McElveen died at the age of 21 in New Orleans, LA. As we say their names, we should remember these individuals as people and not just a statistic. Please join us at the Town Hall to discuss ways to stop this horrific violence in the city of New Orleans.
